Light Emitting Diode or LED lighting has been in existence for many years, mainly in niche applications like small trinkets and indicator lighting. However, due to LED lighting being highly energy efficient, not to mention technologically superior over other light sources such as incandescent and fluorescent lighting, it is forecasted to reach beyond electronic applications into commercial and home LED lighting as well. In a recent report by Global Industry Analysts it is predicted that the market... more

The Future of Solar PV (Photovoltaic) Energy 1. The Problem 2. The Solution 3. The Results 4. The Benefits 5. An Investment in the Future 1. The Problem: Traditional sources of electrical power generation are running out as production will peak in the next decade but demand will continue to rise. Energy prices will continue to rise at a higher rate as well as the number of outages during peak hours. There is the obvious problem of the pollution we are causing to our environment. From my... more

Global warming is happening because of Carbon dioxide being released into our atmosphere. This is like the city smogs that we used to see in the 1900’s, retaining or trapping the infrared heat from the sun in the atmosphere. Global mean temperature rises can be directly correlated to the mean increase in Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere. There is significant evidence that our planet’s weather and climate patterns are changing rapidly as a direct result of Global Warming. Droughts, receding... more

President Bush has indicated it is imperative to kick America’s oil habit. In conjunction with this goal, the Department of Energy has just announced a $119 million dollar research initiative. Money for Research and Development Obviously, automobiles are the basis of America’s oil addiction. Everyone seems to have at least one car if not more. To attack this problem, the current administration is putting a lot of emphasis on hydrogen fuel cell research for vehicles. Hydrogen fuel cell... more

I was disturbed to read today that the frogs from the Tasek Chini were no longer singing. They have practically disappeared. This may not seemed strange to you, in fact, you may not have any idea where Tasek Chini is . After all, it “was” a beautiful large mass of freshwater lake in the tropical forests of Malaysia. It “was” because it now no longer is beautiful as it was, with pollution levels reportedly 56 times higher than is considered healthy, and worse, this is right... more

By Lucien Beauley Article Word Count: 614 6:25 PM 5/14/2006 With energy waste on the minds of many Americans these days, high gasoline prices to run the inefficient engines that power our vehicles help move the majority of us to cut energy costs in as many areas as possible, some of us are even beginning to ration our lighting usage. Is there an answer to our increasing lighting costs ? Granted, much of the cost is being passed on by the utility suppliers and with recent increases in oil prices,... more

After answering several inquiries regarding our success at eradicating weeds from Sluice Pond and raising funds to establish weed control, I thought an article describing a successful process would help others in Massachusetts and New England. A brief history-Sluice Pond is a 50+ acre body of water with approximately 165 homes that abut the pond. Sluice Pond, fed by the Cedar Brook and natural springs, is one of five ponds located 10 miles Northeast of Boston that meander in a “Strawberry... more

The scientific evidence substantiates an increase in annual global surface temperature. Global warming is real and cannot be denied, so what can we do? 1. Control and limit population growth. 2. Encourage space exploration and the colonization of the solar system. 3. Discourage the development, drilling and the consumption of oil. 4. Discourage oil-based automobiles. 5. Develop small localized mass transist solutions that can interface as nodes with other small transportation projects. 6. ... more

Every other year, the U.S. Energy Department holds a solar decathlon for teams from various universities around the world. The winning team receives a $100,000 grant over two years. A Contest of a Different Sort The solar decathlon is an interesting strategy for promoting research and development on solar technology by the Energy Department. The Department selects 20 teams from a bevy of applicants to take part. To win the competition, the teams are given the goal of creating and manufacturing a... more

Global Warming Interview with John Daly 1.Once and for all is global warming fact or fiction. Please explain reasons. We must discriminate here between natural warming which may occur through natural variability, and warming which has been (or may become in the future) generated by human activity. Most of the warming in the 20th century occurred before 1940, a large number of scientific papers attributing that warming to the sun. The sun is now hotter and more active than at any time in the last... more
